Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) & associated rare immune defects
About one fifth of all patients with inflammatory bowel disease present with initial symptoms during childhood and adolescents. In particular in the very young children with inflammatory bowel disease an underlying immunodeficiency may cause intestinal inflammation. The analysis of immune deviation in children with IBD does contribute to the understanding of the complex puzzle of molecular mechanisms involved in IBD.
We like to understand the molecular mechanisms that cause intestinal inflammation and develop better treatments.
