Public Engagement

Centre members take part in a number of public events every year. 

Watch the full performance of Research In Harmony, when five scientists from the WHG and The Jenner Institute collaborated with Oxford vocal group The Beatroots to sing about their research at the Oxford Science+Ideas Festival 2019.

You can learn more about the centre's work in Endometriosis through this explainer video by centre PhD student Magda Marečková.

You can listen to a podcast of our event at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, called "The Heart and the Head", where researchers from the centre told stories from their lives in science, with a live musical accompaniment.

You can also watch our collaboration with FLUX Dance Theatre, performed at Oxfordshire Science Festival 2016, called 'Method in the Motion' and based on the work of the Julian Knight group, below.

The cover of the 'Future Forum 2020' report

The CHG partnered with the British Science Association to produce our 'Future Forum' report, which involved a survey of 1,000 14-to-18-year-olds on a range of issues including genetics research, medical data usage and COVID-19, gathering their perspectives on the impact such work has – and will have – on their lives. Many CHG researchers are profiled on the Oxford Sparks pages, and we have worked with Sparks to develop two animations covering different aspects of the work we do:

The centre has worked with local kids comic The Phoenix on a series called "DNA with Space Bear and Robot" where kitds could learn more about our research. It ran from issue #628 to #637

In 2023, the CHG was awarded a Silver "Watermark" from the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement, in recognition of our outstanding committment to supporting public and community engagement.
