Research Assistant

I am a research assistant in the Handunnetthi group leading a variety of projects with the aim of understanding how early stage inflammation can contribute to neuropsychiatric disorders. One project involves determining the effects of innate immune responses on neurodevelopment processes, using CRISPR-modified iPSC lines and HSV infection of neuronal precursors, neurospheres and brain organoids. Another involves utilising the same CRISPR iPSC models to understand deleterious effects of microglia responses on neuronal health and function in the context of viral infections.  My education consists of a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Stem cell and Regenerative Medicine from The University of Sheffield, and aim to begin a PhD in my current area of research in the future.
