Research Interests

I am an immunologist with an interest in cellular immunology. I study B cell development, B cell response to antigens, and the balance between tolerance and immune activation.

I am particularly interested in the role of BCR signalling thresholds during early B cell development and during an immune challenge. Antigen affinity, avidity and form can influence B cell activation, B and T cell interactions and the generation of immune memory. Importantly, the context of antigen encounter is critical for immune cell selection and responses. However, how B cells discriminate signal quality and quantity, and how signal thresholds influence downstream molecular events to determine immune cell fate, are not very well understood. Better understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying humoral responses in health and disease can help accelerate the development of novel immune modulators and vaccine strategies.
